We were looking for an affordable and flexible PTZ controller that would be able to deal with the unique mix of Panasonic and Canon cameras. We were planning on having multiple control points in different control rooms and we didn’t want to have to have two different control surfaces at each control location. Canon had just released their new outdoor cameras and the Canon protocol had changed slightly. RCT was one of the few vendors that had also already integrated the new Canon control protocol into their product. The Canon CR-X500 cameras operate with a serial interface and RCT had a solution to control multiple serial cameras from their controller over an IP network.
The RCT CS-3 controller not only allowed PTZ control, but also allowed access the shading controls of the cameras. Seeing as we had 3 controllers that would be able to control all of the cameras, it would have been tedious to have to setup all of the cameras on each controller. The CS-3 has a convenient feature that allows you to back up the full configuration and then restore it either on the same controller or in our case the two remaining controllers. Another advantage of the CS-3 is that the presets are accessed from an LCD touchscreen that allows you to name both the cameras and the presets. Unlike a lot of hardware PTZ controllers that only have numbers for both cameras and presets, requiring a “cheat sheet” for the operators.
When we started looking at vendors to solve all of the problems mentioned above, RCT checked all of the boxes. RCT was also very responsive to our requests for information and was also very responsive when it came to troubleshooting any issues that came up. Overall it was a pleasure working with the team at RCT.
I had never worked with RCT before this project, but they came recommended from a fellow coworker who had worked with them in the past. I have to say that RCT’s CS-3 worked exactly as we had hoped in the mixed camera environment, making it transparent to the operators which camera they were controlling. I was also extremely satisfied with RCT’s responsiveness to any issues that came up. Overall I am glad we chose to use the RCT CS-3 and RCT’s responsiveness made them a pleasure to work with.
